What is a Comprehensive Plan?
It’s a long-term guide for the future of our community. It helps the Village make thoughtful decisions about growth, roads, housing, parks, and local services over the next 10 to 20 years. Think of it as a road map that keeps everyone moving in the same direction.
Why are we creating one now?
Centerburg is seeing new growth because of development happening throughout the region. Rather than waiting to see what happens, we want to get ready. Planning now lets us guide that growth so it fits our community, instead of scrambling to catch up later.
Why does Centerburg need a plan like this?
A Comprehensive Plan gives everyone a shared picture of the future. It helps guide where new growth should go, what improvements our roads and services might need, and how we keep Centerburg a great place to live as it changes.
What does the plan actually do?
The plan sets long-term direction to guide future decisions. It looks at topics such as:
- Where different types of buildings and uses go
- Roads and infrastructure
- Water, sewer, and other basic services
- Housing and growth
- Parks, trails, and open spaces
- Local business and jobs
- Community services
The plan guides the big-picture direction, but it does not approve individual building or development projects on its own.
How can I get involved?
There will be several easy ways to take part throughout the project, including:
- Filling out community surveys
- Coming to public meetings and open houses
- Looking over project materials
- Sharing your comments on the draft plan

How will my feedback shape the plan?
Your ideas help us understand what matters most to the community: the priorities, the opportunities, and the concerns. The project team weighs this input alongside the study findings and Council’s direction as the plan takes shape. After each major round of engagement, we’ll share a short “What We Heard” summary so you can see how your input is helping guide the plan.
Is this Centerburg’s first Comprehensive Plan?
Yes! This is the Village’s very first Comprehensive Plan, which makes it an exciting chance to set a shared vision for our future. Starting fresh means the community gets to help shape the direction of Centerburg for years to come.
Have other communities done this?
Absolutely! Over 500 communities in Ohio alone have adopted a comprehensive plan. While not required by Ohio law, comprehensive plans have become the standard tool communities use to guide future growth, investment, and decision-making.
